                                                                   With Standard Gray ZRC Finish:

Carbon Z Rotors standard finish is a gray ZRC coating.  It provides long-lasting protection against corrosion in the most hostile salt-water environments.  After being applied, ZRC provides the highest level of galvanic protection. The film of ZRC is conductive. After the coating heats up during use, it bonds permanently to the metal surface.

                                                               With Optional Bright Silver Plating:

Electro-plating is performed on our rotors to provide a brighter finish which is more appealing to the look of the rotor. When plating a rotor, a metallurgical bond is formed between the plating and steel, forming an iron rich alloy with tenacious bond where it will form its own protective oxide layer. Electro-plating is very effective in combating the corrosion of the rotor.

 Carbon Z Brake Rotor Advantages

Carbon Z Rotors are made from the finest Premium High Carbon Castings available in the world!

We source our brake rotor castings from the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, South America and Asia.  Over 80% are North American made.  Our first choice is always the United States but unfortunately in this world that is not always possible!

·         Carbon Z’s guarantee is that our blank stock rotors will be the finest quality the world has to offer!

·         Carbon Z Rotors are high-carbon heat-treated noise-reducing castings that are finished to higher standards than factory specifications with mill balancing and double disc ground finishing.

·         Carbon Z Brake Rotors are direct replacement for your vehicle with no modifications necessary for perfect fit!

After almost 20 years of making performance rotors we learned a lot — sometimes the hard way!  That’s why Carbon Z Brake Rotors are warranted to be free from defects in workmanship and are guaranteed against cast warping and cracking for the life of the rotor* for most cars and SUVs.

Carbon Z Rotor's Warranty* is among the best in the industry.
Here's why!

·         Slots and holes are computer designed to reduce the chances of thermal stress cracks while providing maximum air flow.

·         In the early days, we just drilled too many holes and weakened the castings; this also reduced the surface area from the brake system and actually degraded performance.

·         Using heat gun studies, we found that the number of holes could be greatly reduced and still get most of the desired heat reduction while greatly reducing the chances of cracking.  Some manufacturers have not figured this one out and still make rotors that have too many holes!

More Holes Than Rotor!Lots of holes in this competitor's rotor can weaken the casting, reduce the surface area and degrade performance

Carbon Z Rotors - More Rotor Than Holes!Reducing the number of drilled holes in the rotor still provides a significant heat reduction AND reduces the chances of cracking

We also learned that there are two ways to Drill and Slot Rotors.

One for Racing/Motorsport applications and another for Street Use.

Racing/Motorsports Rotors

In Racing applications, we machine sharp cut (90 degree) slots and sharp cut small countersunk holes and then adjust or eliminate the number of holes to maximize pad bite, degassing and regulating temperatures to reflect the type of track or style of competition.

In Racing and Motorsports applications, sharp cut machining is desirable, on the Streets it is not!  The sharp edges on the slots and the sharp countersunk holes give the pads maximum bite and performance.  These brake rotors are noisy and very aggressive, requiring frequent pad and rotor replacement.

Street Use Rotors

For Street Use, Carbon Z does it Better!

On Street applications, we machine all slots and holes with rounded edges or what is called “Sinusoidal Curves”.  These advanced drilling methods put Carbon Z Cross-Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotors above the rest in quality, performance, reliability and appearance.

This unique design is quiet, promotes cooling and minimizes stress, reducing the possibility of heat checking (heat cracking) while increasing both rotor and pad life.

Brake Rotor Drilling Methods - Straight Drilled Hole, Countersunk Hole, Radius Hole
Straight Drilled Hole

A high stress and heat buildup area forms at the intersection of the rotor and drilled edge.

Countersunk Hole

Countersinking increases the external surface area of the hole, thus reducing heat, but still contains edges prone to stress and heat buildup.

Radius Hole

The radius chamfer increases the hole cooling area thus reducing heat, but still contains sharp edges.

Absolutely no sharp edges!

The smooth design promotes cooling and minimizes stress, reducing the possibility of heat checking while increasing both rotor and pad life.

Installation Information

See the Carbon Z Brake Rotors Installation Guide  for installation instructions and proper break-in procedures.  Carbon Z Rotors must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations for the Limited Lifetime Warranty* to apply.  Braking performance and effectiveness will be severely reduced if rotors and pads are not properly broken in.

To further assist you in the installation of your performance rotors, see the Undercar Digest article – Promoting & Installing High-Performance Brake Systems.  It contains detailed installation instructions with step-by-step photos on how to install high performance brake rotors and brake pads.  It also contains an analysis of a vehicle's stopping performance following a brake upgrade.
